...does the following statement mean,? please, "Remember that the definite integral is not a function of its variable of integration".
Please be as detailed as possible, as I am so very lost....

A definite integral will resolve to a number, not a variable... There is a range of integration over which the integral value is derived but, once solved, is a definite value - not a function...

Take for example....

Integral of x^2 = x^3/3
Definate integral of x^2 from 0 to 1 is 1^3/3 - 0^3/3 = 1/3...

I hope that helped. I'm having trouble explaining it without being at a white board in front of you!! :)
