In ancient times how were medicines made?

Please can you tell me how doctors made medicines in ancient Greece or any ancient time. Also what did they use in medicines like herbs (that is the only thing i know and i need to find out what else they used)
 
grinding of plants and other ingredients! animal fats and weird parts! but the medicine made in Europe usually was very simple and could be cultivated fairly easy! but Medicines in the pre colombian american culture where complex chemical reactions and are still to this day trying to be recreated for industrial use !

Medicines were made from plants and herbs. Some remedies were totally ineffective and some, by experimentation, were pretty effective. Little by little this is how modern medicine progressed today.
