In a divorce, can property/custody decisions be placed in the Judges hands?

I am having a tough battle with my ex over property issues and custody. The judge lends extra consideration to anything that my ex's attorney requests or mentions because the judge was good friends with the attorney's father, who was also a judge.
I suspect that the attorney is attempting to stall and object to the property mediation and the custody mediation proceedings basically in order to get the decisions to be made by his pal the judge. Is this possible? I need to know soon so I can figure out how to stop it.
