In a asp.net shopping Web site,a question about multi-level commodity search .?

for example in amazon ,after entering phone channel it will list all the phone.and then click SAMSUNG it will only show the SAMSUNG mobile phone.
and also you sort these phones by price or sale rank and so on.

I want to ask if every time it is re-extract data from the database,or just extract once?
