I read this book for one of my classes about a month ago and it confirmed that Saddam could be brutal as a dictator at times. However, it also said that he actually had the place under control, when Iraq was thought as ungovernable before he came to power. Don't you all think that we should get our allies and depart Iraq right now, and let Iraq be dissolved as a single state?? Who else agrees with me that the Kurds need to be given autonomy as well as the Shiites and Sunnis of the region??

First off, if you have read one book about it there is a whole lot more than you know about the CONFLICT over there. My fiance who is a Marine came back from Iraq and Afghanistan said that its just a conflict over there now and that the people like the Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds and terrorist groups are just going to do their war over again b/c of the religions over there right now. It is based on a religious war between those groups of people. But also my fiance told me that since he was in INTELLIGENCE and can't speak to me of what goes on, all he said is since the American troops have been over there for a little over 5 years and if the American troops leave all the groups of people will go back to what they were doing aka fighting, wars, more wars, religious wars, getting more terrorist groups back together again but stronger and will follow us (the US) back home. & it will be another September 11, '01 again, but worse. It's not just iraq either, my fiance also told me that Afghanistan isn't looking very good either. There is going to be another war soon over there and from what he saw and from what he fought its going to be worse than Iraq. There are forces (NOT the US) gathering over there and are having rallies. Yeah the military may say, like my brother said (since he is over in Afghanistan) everything is under control by the military's perspective and their plans. But the government lies. So do politics. The autonomy that will be given to the groups over there already have that! They are voting for a first aren't they? Of course. The women are finally showing their faces and so are the little girls.......hellooooo......
It is governable and that's another reason why the American troops are over there for this reason.

first off saddam was two steps below hitler only because he only kills his own people not others. in my opinion we must do what we did in wwii and vietnam. we must stay in the country until it can govern itself without random terrorist attacks. saddam only "controlled" the country in the sense that if u disagreed you were taken from ur family and killed. we took him out of power and since then believe it or not the average iraqui likes that. u dont see it on tv because the media makes us look like tyrants that wont leave them alone. the only iraquis that must have us leave are the ones puttin road side bombs near our troops.

also, what happened to supporting the troops, that means them and their cause they wouldn't be their if they didn't have to be. yes, we are over there to protect our assets...oil,safety from terrorists and believe it or not there were wmd's but we didn't invade until months after they had disposed of them . the UN had classified photo evidence of chemical bombs. the terrorists moved them to two places: syria in the mountains and in the terrorist areas of russia.

also some people dont realize that we aren't fighting iraq. we are fighting terrorist groups in iraq. the war on iraq ended 5 years ago. the war IN iraq is what is being fought.

as for the part about letting them resolve their issues them selves. the problem with that is shown in middle eastern history. the Islamic area has been fighting over their different groups for 1000 years. shiite vs. sunni vs. kurd. us being there is kind of like a mother sitting in between her arguing kids. if she stays long enough then they will forget what they were arguing about eventuall and go back to normal life.

Pack up and leave? This is unfathomable. If we leave, we loose. If we leave, Iraq looses! If we leave, IRAN, Al Quaida, and the leftist Democratic party wins!

What can be said if we tuck and run? It could be a temporary fix, but what happens if your hometown is no more due to a home grown terrorist cell killing everyone in sight for what is called their Holly War? We would be back in IRAQ (or wherever) trying to clean up a mess we should have taken care of from the beginning.
Now, don't get me wrong, I do not think we should have gone into IRAQ to begin with because I think defense should be for protecting the homeland, but since we are there, we need to complete the mission to ensure future attacks do not happen again. We are too far gone for a retreat.
