Immigration Debate: The new 7 year old face?

Forgive me if this is a redundant question but I'm currently out of the country and have just seen the video:

A 2nd grade girls asked the first lady if Barack Obama was going to deport her mother and said she didn't have papers in a nutshell. I think it's terrible that families may be torn apart but this sound bite being held up as a face of the immigration debate is kind of tacky. I don't know the nationality of the parents involved but for the sake of argument, let's say that she is Mexican. There are people who come the US because there is no opportunity and real hardship, degradation and possible loss of life in their countries of origin (and I think those people should be protected) but Mexico isn't one of those countries - no more so than America at any rate. If she's Salvadoran (which is more likely in the Washington metro), there's actually a labor shortage in El Salvador at the moment. Again, it's unfortunate that there are families who would be affected but does this change your opinion concerning this debate? To be fair, I'm a bit biased against politicians and/or special interest groups trying to manipulate me by tugging my heart strings and it almost always induces the opposite response. Has this video created a different context for you in this debate?
