Image Type Problems, How To Convert?

Hi, after having a mammoth amount of computer problems recently i have finally got it working.

My friends sent me some pictures however when i saved them the file was a 'werid' one.

Normally photos get saved as JPEG's etc etc however these pictures got saved as a 'File', is there anyway i can changed this type of file into a 'JPEG' file type?

right click the pic and choose edit, or Open with... and choose paint... then in paint click file > save as > and if it says file just type in the name you want to save it as and at the end type .jpg

that'll do it.
