One of the things that all historians and historical fiction writers say is that the formality of the late 18th and early 19th century turns modern readers off! John Jakes and Gore Vidal both claim a liberality to dialog due to the formality of the age.

Girls never called fathers "Daddy" nor brothers by any name save "Brother" as in "Brother Robert." Cuddles were given by nannies or maids, but never, ever by family members!

Buskers was another name for beggars and they were shooed away from businesses. They were never tolerated in middle-class neighborhoods.

Where is the book going to take place? France, England, United states, China, etc? Customs will be different depending upon the area.
