Im a freshman at a community college now. I'm doing well and please do understand that I don't know how to study yet but I'm getting my methods straight so the grades aren't fantastic.

I will probably be getting a 82.5 in Calc, 85 in Physics, 90 in English and 94 in History.

In high school, I didn't do any work because I didn't care. Im not a party person at all and don't have many friends so its not like I wasn't studying because I was partying, I just simply did not care. However, this semester, I'm really liking school. I like studying. I love it rather. I know I could be doing better in my studies from my Math and Physics classes in High School but I wasn't paying attention.....but the grades are pretty good for a person who did bad in high school. Next semester will be better, I know it. My professors are all impressed through my efforts. Its great.

But my question to you is what universities will accept me through my HORRIBLE high school grades (60s-70s)?

I know I changed and I see the world in a different light. I know 4 languages, Arabic, Farsi (From Iran), French and English from a young age.

I worked at the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt for 2 months and taught Arabic for a year to elementary students.

What colleges can I get into? My gpa at the end of those two years in the community college will most probably be a 3.5. I really.....REALLY want to get into a good school like Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, Cornell. I really don't want to be a failure in life and to ad to it, I always look down at myself. Do you think I could get into those schools or should I stay to those state schools.

Ugh, its pissing me off. Please answer me offering advice and guidance.

Thanks

They probably won't look at your high school grades as much as you think they will, they'll probably just look at your college GPA. Apply to good schools if you want, but apply to state schools as well--they really aren't bad. Don't just think that you'll be a "failure in life" if you don't get into Harvard or whatever. Plenty of people have gone to state schools and done just fine. Also, your college grades are good--I'm a senior and completely failed Calculus, so you're doing better at that than I am! :)
