I'm without transportation.

No.

It cranked but wouldn't start, so I tried it a few times. The last time, nothing.

I'm going to try again today. If not, it looks like it's public transportation until I can get it fixed.

Maybe I'll repair the body damage as well. :happysad:

OK then I'll go with Silk's question: the last time, did it even click when you tried to start it? Or did it do absolutely nothing?

Hmm...interesting. So you have two problems, then. A starter issue, which seems to be somewhat common on those cars (according to that first link, anyway), and a fuel or ignition problem, which is preventing the engine from starting up when it is cranking.

I will get ahold of my brother, yet. This does sound very familiar. I'll probably talk to him around midafternoon.

Well, I talked to my brother, and he said that when his Celica had problems (I guess it didn't quit, though), it was the timing belt. It had jumped a cog, and so still ran, although quite rough. If you never noticed it running poor before, or it didn't just quit on you, then it's probably not that. The timing belt is one thing, though, that is supposed to be changed regularly. I think about every 100,000 kilometers, or about 60,000 miles. Quite often, the timing belt never does get changed until it wears out and breaks, causing other engine damage.

I doubt that's your problem, though. I would say it's electrical or ignition related.

Are you going to have to get someone else to fix it, or do you try to do what you can, yourself?

It's not my timing belt.

I've had that break on my other Celica. ('86)

It's not the same problem. I'll get it towed somewhere and have them look at it.

OK. If you don't mind, once you find out what it is, either post back here or PM me with what the problem was. I'm interested to know, now!

That would be a good alternative if I was still in my hometown...

The company let me borrow one of their vehicles today. My car's going to get looked at tomorrow.

I had the whole no transportation issue for about 5 years. Thank goodness San Diego makes it easy to get around without a car. (by easy, I mean it is possible, not actually easy)

I usually just take the trolley, or the bus. Thank you, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.
