I'm trying to trade in my car?

I bought my car when I was 16 and my father had it registered under his name. he passed away a year ago and I am trying to trade my car in so that i can buy a new one, but the car title cant be found by any of my family members because we dont know where my dad put it and I have no idea how to change the registration so that I can trade it in.

any advice?
