I'm trying to figure out what this anime movie I watched is called when I was a kid...?

When I played kingdom hearts it reminded me of it. It's about a boy who opens a door to darkness. I watched it prior to 1995, but I can't seem to remember what it's called. I'm pretty sure it's Japanese work, but not 100% positive.
