Im trying to design a book cover for an author and have a few questions?

I was talking with my sister who knows alot more about copywrite laws then me. She says that I need to get an agent if this author wants to use my art as their cover. She thinks that this author is trying to buy the copywrite from me so she can claim it as her own without putting in the book that the cover art was by me and the only way to avoid that is through an agent. Also, she said that I should expect thousands of dollars for doing this instead of a couple hundred. So I guess my questions are, how should I go about selling my art to an author while still having them put me as the artist in the book. Also, how much should I expect to get paid or how much should I ask for?

ah interesting. I'm sorry but I have absolutely no idea
1) call a lawyer and ask...just look in the back of your phone book
2) call the company where the author is being published

If you don't trust this person who's trying to use your art you don't have to do anything. Just chill, demand for answers.
