I'm Too Young To Be This Sore!!! HELP!!!

OK, yeah, I get it...smoking isn't good for you...but I am not prepared to give up everything that pleases me, and I honestly enjoy the taste of tobacco.

It drives me nuts when doctors try to lay the blame for every frickin' ailment around on my smoking. IT'S LAZY DOCTORING and it drives me insane.

I have an impossible time believing smoking, by itself, could be causing the symptoms I am describing...or even be a MAJOR contributing factor.

I'm far more prepared to believe and accept that my weight DOES play a major role. And I do need to lose some. The only diet that ever DID work for me was Atkins...but it's an expensive diet and, after losing 40 on it, I plateaued...and then, after stopping...I gained it all back plus some.

Here's the rub, basically...I'd rather live 60 years happy, than 80 years depriving myself of all that pleases me. You know the old saying..."Eat, run, stay fit, live healthy...and get hit by a truck, anyway."

I just don't want to live whatever time I do have left in as much pain as I am in...so...basically I need to try to eat a bit healthier and get some more exercise. To that end, I'm just looking for some ideas for some low-impact exercises/stretches that I can do to start out...because I don't want to hurt myself worse...and overdoing it at the start is a sure way to hurt yourself worse...and to also cause you to give it up.

Seeing as how I do NOT have a pool, I wonder what other low impact exercises/stretches I can do to get myself a bit stronger and then work up to other things...and then, later, as I get stronger, start to incorporate some more strenuous exercise, as I can handle it...in order to help lose the weight.

While I appreciate your attempt to help, it's been my experience that any sudden, DRASTIC lifestyle change, undertaken all at once...is doomed to failure...and I want to succeed. So I gotta start out slower, and build up.

I'm 5'5" and weight 225. My knees hurt, my back hurts, and my feet hurt. Standing around is much worse than walking, but if I walk enough it hurts.

I think your biggest issue is going to be your weight. You have roughly the same BMI as me, when your extra 5" are considered. That's a lot of weight to put on the joints, and it's going to make you sore.

I second that you should quit smoking. I used to love to smoke, loved the flavor of the cigarrettes, swore I'd never quit. But I started get asthma and it wasn't worth not being able to breath.

But the soreness...that's probably your weight.

Kal:
It is possible that something in your everyday routine could be creating this problem. But I really do feel that you need to go to a doctor and have blood work done and an exam. There are many different conditions that can cause the pain you are having. As an example, you could have a thyroid problem. It is common to have muscle pain with that. You could have fibromyalgia or some kind of arthritis. Also, if you were truly motivated you would lose weight and stop smoking. I don't mean to sound cruel but they are two big contributing factors in pain in the body and could be creating some kind of deficiency. Good luck. Hope my opinion helps you.

Actually, I do have a thyroid problem, was on meds for it, but stopped taking them when i lost my insurance, can't afford drugs.

I do have hypothyroidism. I only worked P/T and on partial disability, and now lost the P/T job because the company got sold.

Am hoping new company will rehire me but don't know yet.

Yes, you describe the same thing I am feeling. standing around hurts a heck of a lot more than walking does. enough walking will hurt, too, especially if I have to wear heels. But the standing is awful...even in sneakers, it's awful!!
