I have an old Honda Twin which is points and has a Auto advance unit.. Im thinking to upgrade the system to 12volts and thought of adding electronic ignition.
I was first thinking to remove the auto advance and install a rotor and sensor.
here is the questions i have.
1. does it make any diffrence if i mix n match parts? ie i was going to use a cg125 cdi, kawasaki gt/ gpz550 coil and a zr550 sensor.
2. If i fit a modern cdi unit, am i right in thinking i dont need the auto advance as the cdi unit will do the advancing electronically?
3. how do i set the timming so that the spark is at the right time for a cdi unit, is it simply a case of putting the sensor roughly close to TDC?
thanks for any helpful advice
p.s i dont want to spend stupid money on a newtronic kit of similar. Im trying to make up my own for about £20
