Hey, I'm 16 and doing an apprenticeship in building. But for some reason i have an urge to join the army. Even though my great grandad died in Belgium in the first world war,my grandad spent 5 and a half years fighting in the second world war as a private (somehow he survived). The thing what puts me of joining is the stories my dad has told me what my grandad went through. He told me he was driving a truck full of solders to the Front line after they had pushed the germans back, and they went over a mine, most of the men had died,or lost legs and arms, but because he put so many sand bags around his seat he didn't get harmed. He told my tad of how he almost lost his sight in one eye, when a german plane was flying low and shooting at them he ran for cover and tripped and fell on barb wire what went into his eye. My dad told me of how they had to stack the rotting bodies of his friends and comrades, like sandbags against the bullets when he had to crawl to the front line with the communications wire from the front-line to the generals. And my grandma said for years after the war he use to wake up in the night screaming. He never went to any army reunions, never went to remembrance service, and he turned down medals saying he didn't see the glory in killing humans, and it was nothing to be proud of. And when my dad as a child asked him if he ever killed anyone,he just went quite and didn't speak. But for some reason i kind of want to join the army. But i can't decide, like if i do i don't want to in Afghanistan and be thinking why am i here,i want to be home. have you any experience of the army would you recommend it?
