I'm thinking about joining either the U.S. Marines or the U.S. Army...any advice

or info would be great!? So I'm currently 17.

I have a few reasons for joining the military:

-I want to set a good career goal and gain skills;

-I think it's important for a U.S. citizen to serve the U.S. one way or another;

-The experience I would gain will be very valuable


I don't know which one, furthermore, I don't know all the different types of programs. There are 2 year, 4 year, etc and I want to know how to choose.

Any advice, information, warnings and all that would be great!
