I'm thinking about buying this honda.

133k miles, 4 cylinders and the A/C is not working. How much does it cost to fix A/C?

At 99k, the owner brought the car to Larry's Independent Volvo Service and the owner wanted/had the following done to the honda:
Timing belt replaced
Balance shaft belt
Replaced timing tensioners
Replaced water pump
Flushed coolant
Replaced all drive belts
Tuned up Engine
Replaced distributor cap and rotor
Replaced sparkplugs
Replaced ignition wires
Replaced PCV valve
Adjusted valves
Replaced valve cover gasket
Replaced transmission fluid
Flushed brake fluid
Rotated and balanced tires

Everything seems fine, but the engine seems kind of loud when I compare the noise with my 6 cylinder honda. After I test drove the car, I smelled a plastic burning smell from a particular spot near the engine.

Give me a rough estimate to fix the A/C. Owner says he thinks the car needs new freon, but I'm concerned for major damages.

Overall, is this car worth getting a full inspection from a certified mechanic?

Its worth the $20 for the full inspection by a mechanic. The A/C can cost $50-$500 to fix depending on if it just needs to be recharged or if it needs a new compressor. I have a '95 Accord EX with a 5 speed and with 215,000 miles on it and it still is running like new. Just do the maintnance and treat it right it will last forever. Also 4 cylinder engines will always be a little rougher idleing and sound a little rougher compared to a V6 just because of how inline 4's are made. The Accord is a cheap car to repair because there are so many of them on the road still and so many were made. Its also an easy car to fix. It's a great car and you cant go wrong by getting it.
