I'm suddenly nauseous and have heartburn after eating

I started feeling nauseous yesterday shortely after eating a chocolate chip cookie. After about an hour I had heart burn. I drank some water and had some Tums, which cleared it up. After eating subway, I felt nauseous again, this time for a lot longer. I didn't feel the heartburn but I did notice that my nausea would get worse after I had a cigarette (i've been a smoker for 6 yrs and I've recently been cutting back in hopes of quitting). Needless to say, I only had two cigarettes yesterday. My nausea got to the point that I thought for sure I was going to need a toilet but I never did. I have a high tolerance for "ralphing" that I usually can't unless I'm very sick (i "ralphed" only once when i was pregnant). Being V-Day, we didn't eat dinner until 10:30pm and I felt nauseous shortly after eating as well. Now its starting over again today. I thought it was the medication I've been taking this week, methelyprednisolone (a corticosteriod for cluster migraines), so I double and triple check the side effects... I even looked up reviews for the medication. The only time nausea is listed as a side effect is if the medication is suddenly stopped without tappering off and I've been very careful to not miss any of my medication. Today the nausea and heartburn are getting to the point that I can't eat... cereal even made me nauseous.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Or what I can do to reduce the nausea so I can eat? My fiancee thought I was pregnant but my period isn't due til next weekend so I can't test yet. Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe something you're eating is disagreeing with you. It's like cheese for me. I still eat it but it always gives me chronic heart-burn, sometimes that severe that it burns the back of my throat. Could be fatty foods. It's not good for you, in every sense of the word!

Thank you to both of you for your responses.
I thought at first it might be acid reflux but I've been nauseous before I have heartburn, and if I smell certain foods it makes my nausea worse. I had my gallbladder removed so I don't each much fatty or greasy food anymore. I'm gonna try make an appointment w/my dr later this week (i'm in college full time and my daughter doesn't have school this week).
