Check out the bore x stroke dimensions on any of the Japanese 600s and tell me what you see... They're identical bikes. Then take a look at the splashy paint schemes and graphics designed to hide the fact that the lines on their over-wide rockets just aren't that appealing... Couple that to the fact that every squid who only cares about a top speed he'll never use owns one and it's easy to see how someone who adheres to the "less is more" philosophy would look down upon the Japanese 4s.
I could have had a Jap bike last year if I wanted to be like everyone else. But for me it's worth going without for a little while to get something a bit more special.
That said, the Jap bikes have come a long way. I think the difference was more pronounced back in the 90s when Ducati had the 916 series and the other brands looked like complete .

The "finer" things in life are subjective to some degree....everybody has a different idea of what is "superior"
If Ducatis do it for you (and they do it for us or we wouldn't be here) than that's all that matters. It's all about how it makes YOU feel. The great thing about life is we have choices.
Enjoy your Duc, Learn to get the best out of it that it can give. Look after it and respect its capabilities and limits and it will look after you. Some day you will find yourself, beer in hand, sitting in the garage just staring at it and thinking you are so lucky that you have one and can appreciate it.

I didn't say I hate jap bikes. All I said was that when I ride them, I find their character boring. you can hardly feel the engine underneath you when you are cruising around, no vibration at all, no endearing sound from the engine. These are not bad things, I just prefer the ducati feel. I have never once said I hate jap bikes. I would own one of each bike if I had the money.

Fair enough. Thats why I have the CBR and the 848. Love em both. Oh and I the Husky TE250 dirt bike is a FN blast too.

In distant days past while enjoying (in a lesser way) my previous 50+ Honzukiyamasaki's I had no idea what I was missing..... My first 996 helped me realise there was more to the experience of riding and now I share my affliction with the rest of the 'Family'. It's my pleasure to be welcomed among you!

Well, I've had my 1198 for less than a week, and I've got 850 kms on him, and I have to say that I've fallen completely in love!! The other night after a little ride on the duc, I took my R1 out for a ride, and couldn't believe the difference! I felt like I was riding an electric bike!
Now, I still love my R1 too, of course. But the 1198 is like having a new, hot, young, stud come into my life, and I just want to play with him all the time!
Who cares what other people say. If your duc moves your soul, then that's what really counts!
BTW - I've noticed that it's usually the jealous people who are the most negative.
