I'm very active on the R&S forums, and I take particular interest in answering the questions that attack Christian for being "anti-gay" (anti-gay marriage?). Every time I answer a question like this, I offer a paraphrase of the same argument, given below. Invariably I ALWAYS get like 5 thumbs down and am NEVER picked as Best Answer even though I do successfully justify the anti-gay marriage platform.
Anyway, I'd like for you all to read it and tell me WHAT'S SO HORRIBLE in it that I warrant getting shafted with low ratings. Enjoy:

Q: Can anyone give me one (non-religious) reason gay marriage is wrong?
A: See, there's your problem right there: "non-religious" reason.
MARRIAGE IS A RELIGIOUS SACRAMENT. I'm not saying this because I'm a brainwashed Christian, I'm just saying that historically the institution STEMS FROM and BELONGS TO the Church. The whole problem is that government became involved in marriage in the first place, transforming it from a spiritual union to a legal one. Marriage certificates are pointless, because marriage is designed to be in the eyes of GOD, not in the eyes of the STATE.
So no, there's no real non-religious reason gays should be allowed to "marry". That is why I support civil unions--certainly, gay couples should get the government marriage certificates and tax breaks. But gay MARRIAGE is a whole different story, and one that must rightfully be left up to individual religious denominations who perform the sacrament. MARRIAGE NEEDS RELIGION. As long as the churches continue to think God hates gays, then there never will be gay MARRIAGE, only gay "marriage" (civil unions).
