Im sick and it hurts to swallow :l?

I just got sick like a week or less ago, and I was only congested but my throat was fine, and now It hurts SO MUCH to swallow, I make a face of pain every time because it hurts so bad. Im not on medication, and I haven't gone to the doctor (considering I really don't want to). Are there any home remedies that would make this better? Or any good medication to take? Thank you in advance~
