The other day I posted on a HACK of all things, now OS5 compliant, that worked with YAHM (ClipStringHack). Anyone interested can do a search.
Well today, Freeware Palm has announced that RNS software, makers of Hi-Launcher, have three OS5 hacks "updated." The link on Freeware Palm to see 3 on a page is:

The 3 links individually are :
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/tipshack.shtml
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/alerthack.shtml

and RNS software's site specific is:

This is truly exciting to me. It seems that since everyone's "given up" on OS5, let alone OS6 really "leading to anything," at least in the near future - it appears that software developers are going back to the old days - with a vengeance. At lest perhaps with a sense of "duty" to Palmers unexpressed by Palm itself. Ranosoft deserve MUCH applause for this, as does the developer of ClipStringHack (LTH Thaler or "L Thaler," France).
WHY ON EARTH come out with OS5 hacks now? Don't know. Don't care. It's great news, and should give those of us with a more powerful Tungsten Model (no matter what it is) some simple "control" again using these new OS5 compliant hacks.
Note that they work with YAHM (Yet Another Hack Manager) and at least the ones I tried won't work with TealMaster, as I explained in my last post regarding ClipString. TealMaster is brilliant at making some older OS4 hacks work - YAHM's what you need for the newer OS5 ones, should you have OS5.
Anyway - already loaded "SmoothScrool Hack" 3.0, and it's great. I'm now actively looking to see what else is new. Remember lads and ladies - 100MB free on a TX is great - but when for 10-12k you can add 4-5 functionalities that weren't there or EVER goingto be there - no dots in highlighted text, for example - or the annoying "Do you want to turn beaming on/off" messages, or a lightning scroll bar that flashes information past you too quick (especially in small font) - or extended clipboards - these hacks can deliver a lot.
Care must be taken to ALWAYS remember to "unhook" or deactivate them before deletion or upgrading - in fact I'd un-check them, DELETE them, soft reset the Palm and then reinstall the new one just to be safe - but most of these little wonders are 3-4k each and a Godsend. Also, NEVER put hacks in flash, even if you "can." You loop a bad hack with endless hard resets and you'll hate life. There is a fix but it's lengthy & a nightmare - I'm not sure I understand the procedure and I'm a flash/hack "freak." Don't do it. Ever. That includes the managers TealMaster and YAHM. RAM only.
We may be seeing uncertainly in Palm OS - but apparently developers don't mind trying to give us all back what we used to have before the "we're changing to OS5 to eventually get to OS6 when things will be great" melarkey. What we're starting to see is the good old small-footprint functionality that made Palm famous by way of clever INDEPENDENT DEVELOPERS.
And I for one am very, very happy about. Good going RNS (Ranosoft) - much appreciated!! Now if you could just make handhelds!! I'll post this now but will put addendum underneath in a few minutes with screenshots of my "good old 505 days" hack setup featuring TWO hack managers running compliant. God I love the razor's edge. Wonder if AfterBurner would still work . . . . (COUGH, COUGH, SMOKE FILLING ROOM . . . . . That's gonna take more than a soft reset . . . .)
