im scared to let my 6 month old kitten outdoors :(?

i have a 6 month old kitten called oscer and i am too scared to let him outdoors hes sneeked out when i am at the door talking with friends and he has come back in to the house...but every time we open the front door he makes a run for it! its like he cant wait to go out..im scared he will get hurt or some one will take him as he is soo cute he is long furred fluffy black with blue eyes...what do i do?? i would keep him in but litter trays are becoming a pain in the bum and he really wants to go but hes my baby lol ..
