I'm really hoping...

That the third time is the charm. The last 2 messages I have posted have been read plenty of times, but no responses so far.

I have been receiving an error when I hotsync, and I was wondering if any of the seasoned palm veterans around here might know the answer.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. I have office 2003 installed, and I use the outlook conduits instead of palm desktop for all of my PIM stuff; i.e. contacts, notes, todo, calendar.

On my T3, I am using DateBk5.

When I sync, I get this error:

Outlook Calendar
The conduits were unable to attach to Outlook, possibly because the logon was canceled or otherwise failed.
Synchronization failed.

- Not Synchronized
OK Outlook Calendar with 1 message(s)
Outlook Contacts

OK Outlook Contacts

I have gone through all of the custom setting under the hotsync manager, and nothing appears to be set up wrong. I would appreciate any and all responses to this error. Thanks.

Outlook sometimes has more than one PST file for different users of the PC....if during the setup process you didn't get an option to "pick" which Outlook file the T3 is "looking" for then you may have to go into the conduit manager and re-point the conduits to the correct file.

If you have multiple user's on the same PC, of course, you must have admin rights in order to change file pointing as the main "mailbox.pst" file.

Check the settings of the mailbox file location via the WinXP Control Panel - mail settings and see what the location is for your box and then compare that to the conduit setting.

Also,

The Outlook file should be called simply "mailbox.pst".

If it's called something else then the Palm Conduits don't really want to go "looking" for it.

If all of the above seems ok, then go into your outlook file and right click on each of the folders, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Tasks - choose properties and be certain that each folder has "Automatically Generate Microsoft Exchange Views"

I've sometimes seen where this will "hang" as you've described.

Also, if you have everything in subfolders in Outlook that you want to sync - it won't happen without third party software. Pocket Mirror Pro XT 3.17 can help there. You can check it out at www.chapura.com

I'd bet though that it's tied to the location that the T3 thinks your Outlook folder is in so be certain to check the name of your Outlook file and it's location.

If you want to report that back, I'll see if I can help some more but I've got 4 different PST files on my desktop and I pointed it in the right direction.....but it took a couple of tries.

I sent a ping to Chapura support to see if they had an idea.....Run the Detect and Repair program inside of Outlook 2003. It's located off of the Help menu....they say the error message your getting indicates a "problem" with the Outlook "server", even if it's resident on your pc.

I can say that I remember having to do that "detect and repair" on Outlook 98 before the T3.

You may need the Office 2003 CD...or not depending upon the issue.

Although my signature is German, it basically denotes that "beer" is a good thing so I'll take "thanks" via the Golden Nectar. ;)

If you get into a bind in the future and your not getting any help, PM me. Sometimes I'm on the road travelling and don't monitor the board so I missed your earlier posts but at least a PM would notify me.

You can try some of the other members as well, the "massive" posters are usually willing to help even if we aren't monitoring.

BTW, your welcome either or both "fixes" might have been necessary and I know Jim was glad to help as well.

I guess I spoke too soon. I had one sync with no error, now it is back. I only use one outlook PST, and I only have one profile installed for outlook. I loaded both outlook 2003 patches on the palmone website, and I did the outlook detect and repair. Anyone else have an idea? Thanks.

Soft Reset the device and try again. If it doesn't work then copy the hot sync log (just the last one not the whole log) and post it and let me take a look at it.

Did a soft reset, and restarted the PC. Here is a copy of the log.

At this point, I think the best thing to do is start at the beginning. First, do the detect and repair on Outlook. Next, uninstall the Palm Desktop from Control Panel. Reinstall from the original T3 CD and then apply all the T3 patches at the PalmOne web site, particularly the two hotsync patches. Check to make sure that hotsync shows the Outlook conduits set to sync and the Palm Desktop conduits set to Do Nothing. Try hotsyncing a few times and see if this fixes the problem.

I about out of ideas. I re-ran the detect and clean, uninstalled and reinstalled the conduits and then applied both patches. It worked for 2 hotsyncs. Shut the computer down last night before bed, and hotsynced again this morning, and the error is back. This is really starting to bug me.

Anyway, thanks again for all the help and suggestions. I'll post a solution, assuming I find one.

I'd also look at your Firewall settings. Since Win XP SP2 has been released we've been seeing a lot of anomolies.

Try turning off your firewall settings and see if it will connect. Then if it does, your going to have to change your firewall settings.

If that doesn't do it.....I'm clueless.
