well actually it depends on the iphone as in the u.s. these iphones are att locked and therefore need to be unlocked which u can do urself
but there is officially unlocked versions of the iphone sold overseas with a full apple waranty and sometimes u can find here these phones are not likely to be scams since some countries such as taiwan mandates that ll phones have to be unlocked or unlocked upon request
