i have moved into an old house that hasnt been touched since the 80's. the wooden, spindle banisters had a few layers of white paint on them. i went to the hardware store and got advice to give them a light sanding to clean then and paint over it with a regular wood paint. they were white and i painted them a dark red colour. the colour would look fantastic only for it doesnt seem to be taking. i have put on 3 layers now and i can still see the old colour as the new colour just keeps going on unevenly. its like trying to paint banisters covered in cling-film!!
should i just keep piling on the layers of paint or should i sand it all off and start from scratch??
HELP!!
