...can i get a Tax rebate? I worked until Feb 27th in my job this year before going travelling for six months. Im PAYE but could find a months tax handy while im away. How do I go about getting this back. My Mrs got hers back in her wages before she left. How do I go about getting mine back before i start work again and they change my Tax code next year. I generally earn a fair bit above the bench mark set for higher rate tax if that makes a difference?

NB - I have not actually left my work so do not have a P45 as im still employed by them.

I dont think thats correct, as when you earn over a certain amount (32k), the money you earn over this is paid to the government at a higher rate.

For instance if I earned 5.3k a month on PAYE and then stopped working for 6 months i would have been paying tax on a higher tax code thus due a tax rebate as i would have paid far to much tax for the year.

Can someone confirm?

Why do you think you're entitled to a months tax refund ?

If you're PAYE - you're taxed weekly or monthly ! You don't pay all your tax for one year at once !

Therefore - if you've only worked eleven months of the year - you'll have only been taxed on eleven months salary !

PAYE is exactly that - Pay As You Earn - if you don't work - you don't get paid (and therefore don't pay tax !)
