Sorry to ask again but when I went to the ENT last week he said it looks like I had reflux, heres my symptoms.
Sore throat constantly on left side.
Build up of phlem in throat.
Not much indigestion tho?
Ocassional burning which travels up my throat.
Left ear feels strange, like its blocked.
Strange that my throat feels better in the mornings tho? and gradually gets worse through the day(could be that I still smoke!)? and its irratating the burn in my throat?
Question? will this throat burn/sore ever go away? Ive had it for 9mths now.
Also the last few nights in the middle of the night my teeth have been aching.
Anyone know if this is actually Reflux?
Thanks

Hi,

I just wanted to commiserate with you if nothing more.

I have nearly all the same symptoms as you with the addition of a few more. When I wake up in the mornings, my throat and chest feel tender on the right side. I attribute it to laying on that side during the night and the acid standing in a pool. Sometimes I notice it in the back, dead center if I sleep on my back too long.

I get terribly phlegmy after I eat, sometimes so thick I can barely swallow it back down. My right ear is constantly plugged and often aches, seemingly in conjunction with these flareups I've been getting lately.

I wake up and feel fine as well. Even after lunch I'm usually okay. It all seems centered around my evening meal, even when it's small. I finished eating tonight at 9:20pm and just now I'm feeling itchy, raw throat, and my food is beginning to work it's way back up my esophagus. I can tell because I have a frothy gas that's beneath food and I feel lots of pressure from my mid-sternum up to my throat. It'll keep getting worse for the next hour and then go away. It's a pain in the butt and driving me nuts.

If you find out more about your symptoms, keep me posted. I'm beginning to get a little freaked out about mine though I doubt anything is seriously wrong.

Thanks for your reply, it is a pain tho isnt it! I have to go for camera down the throat in January some time so wil let you know what they find.

These both sound like low acid caused reflux, if a couple of apple cidar vinegar pills at the end of a meal stop the reflux, this would be a good positive indicator! It's Betaine HCL in appropriate dosages that will stop the sphincor from staying open, but the dosage has to be high enough in the stomach with each meal. As in contact a homepath or naturopath for help and guidance if your dr. is saying only, "HEAL YOUR ESOPHAGUS!" and "TAKE ANTIACIRAB" they maybe inadvertantly injuring you much more because your food may not be digesting if your stomach is not making the quantity of acid it neeRAB to/aka you may have severe malnutrition!

Hi all, I have similiar symptoms in that they are generally better first thing in the morning and generally only really start after I get up. I have had both a sinusscope (revealed nothing sinister other than a lot of catarrh) and a gastroscope where they discovered that I do have a hiatus hernia.

I have had throat issues on and off for ages which have generally been mis-diagnosed as throat infections etc. Symtoms include, lots of sinus and throat catarrh, left eat aches from time to time and during the last 4 months or so I have started getting a burning throat (behind the sternum). I have been on PPI's for the last three months but still get some flareups where I am bad for 2-3 days (don't get relief from gaviscon etc) but then I might be generally ok for a week or two. All this despite taking my meRAB throughout?

Sound familiar to anyone?

Cheers

Hi sounRAB familiar to me!! my throat is only sore around the arch near where the tonsils would have been only on the left side also, have seen several docs that said dont worry it wil go away! well 10mths down the line it hasnt!!
I was taking pepcid 3 times a day but that didnt help.
I keep coughing up phlem also nearly all day.
The consultant I saw also said I have thrush right at the back of my throat, couldnt see it myself as its too far back, I still have to wait ages for the camera down my throat and am terrified of what they might find!
Its really getting me down now, also I have a lot of stress going on at the moment, wonder if thats making it worse?

Hi K9love,

Sorry to hear that! I know what you mean about the phlegm!!! I always used to try and bring it up (when I thought it was throat infections) but I now try and leave it down there. Also get a lot of phlegm in my nose/sinus too. I have been used a sinus rinse which is ok, not sure how useful it is but was getting pretty desperate and would give anything a go!

I too was terrified of what they might have found with the scopes but it is the only way of really knowing what is going on. I would say to try and relax about it and try not to worry too much as I am sure you will be ok. OdRAB are that it won't be anything too serious and also I think you would REALLY know about it 10 months on! :-)

Stress is a major factor so try to relax, easier said than done I know and I am trying my best to relax myself even having had a diagnosis but I am still getting some pretty bad symptoms from time to time.

Good luck and keep in touch, hope you have a good Christmas!

Cheers

(Now go and walk your dog! :-) )

hi guys, i feel like you are writing about me, i think we all share the same type of relux or whatever it is....and i am having such a hard time responding to ppis. I tried the apple cider vinegar for months but didn't notice any change, i actually noticed my throat becoming more and more raw with it, i truly wanted to believe in it, so kept it up. I have no idea if i am low acid or high acid. I try to stop thinking about the damage of at least 6 months of this, but like you guys it gets hard. In the meantime i am taking aloe vera to help coat and heal my throat but the PROBLEM is i can't get the acid to stop coming up which just keeps inflaming the throat and i know EXACTLY what you mean about how it feels when you eat and the bubbles and it slowly comes up...pure craziness. I am sorry my post has no solutions but boy, do i feel better i am not the only person with this strange type of relux. Until i came to this board even my own GI dr told me it is uncommon what i am experiencing, thanks doc! but i don't think i am so alone and i want to know why this is happening to us. So many of us aren't responding to ppi's or if we do only for a bit.
