Oh, I completely agree about the luxuries-as-necessities thing, Laura. I grew up with only my dad working, and we actually lived a pretty comfortable life...visited Disney World regularly and such...and there were 4 of us. I realize not everyone makes as much money, but my understanding is he doesn't even make that much (he refuses to tell me how much he makes because it's "top secret information."..won't even tell me what his job position is.) People now think their lives will end if they don't have an iPhone and eat out at least once per week. My mom also clipped coupons like it was nobody's business. If the wife is sitting home all day, she can clip coupons. You can save hundreds per shopping trip.
