i'm a new cashier in a fast food chain and i'm nervous.

see, im not very good with people.

i started off two weeks ago in the kitchen and now im in the counter.

gads.

so basically what are the er.. "cashier etiquettes"

lol.

what do i say when i want to repeat their order so that they could see if i got it right?

and all the other stuff?

aaaaagh.

the place i work in doesnt really have a good training program.

they just showed me how it works on the first day,

made me do it with some assistance the second day

and made me do it with barely any assistance on the third.

and their instructions were only snippets.

as if i know everything! :(

agh.

and btw, i'm really clueless about the etiquettes and the appropriate words and stuff cause im from another country.

so i'm scared i might sound rude or something. or i might say the wrong thing. or whatever. agh.

[im in new zealand...]
thank you all for your reassurance. i feel better now.

[four hours to go till work. lol]

im only 16 btw. so im really kind of..

well.. 'slow'.

lol :))

i was once a fast food cashier. i am totally not the people type and i get angry easily.anyways, they threw me on there the first day and it was a friday..talk about a horrible first day.
but as you get on the register more, you will learn it quicker and know what button is where
GOOD LUCK

Agreeing with Tiffany&Lilly - being polite and courteous is the best approach. Everything else (including confidence) will come with experience.

Also, remember you're human, and human beings can and will make mistakes from time to time. Don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake and for sure don't take it personally if you get a rude customer.

Best of luck to you!

Even if you mess up...it's a fast food "restaurant." No one goes there for the customer service.

Here in America it's pretty amazing to find a fast food cashier that actually speaks unbroken fluent English, so the bar hasn't been raised very high.
