I'm needing something new, current phone is dying

I'm not due for my two year upgrade until Decmeber but my current phone is about worn out. I'm with verizon currently because its the only carrier where I can get a signal at my parents house in WV. Currently have an LG vx 5200, before that I had a samsung and before that a qualcom. The LG is kind of sucky, the calendar and such never worked well, the camera is limited to 640x480 and it took some silly windows drivers. I liked the samsung because it didn't need any drivers, I could plug it into Windows or Linux and snych with bitpim but the hange cracked and even though it was a common problem with samsung at the time they refused to do anything about it.
I actually don't make all that many calls, we started carrying cell phones for emergency use so I rarely use all my minutes which is why I went to the camera phones so I could have some other reason to carry the phone with me. So I'd like to have decent PIM apps and a decent camera. The decent cameras seem to be in phones like the Samsung a990, motorola razr maxx, etc.
I'm wondering if cracked hinges are still a common Samsung issue?
Do any of the higher end camera phones work without special windows drivers so I don't have to boot windows just to use bitpim like I do now?
Do any of the vehicle chargers work decently unlike the overprices charger verizon made me buy for the LG which fast charges the battery and results in it fast discharging?
Is Verizon going to dump analog completely next year so I should just stick with a digital only or start looking at another carrier?
