Hi I'm want to buy a dirt bike. I have never owned one and don't know anything about them. I need some advice on what to get. I'm 6' and 150 pounds if that helps. Please help

Before you buy a bike, please sign up for, and take a MSF (safety) course. You will learn so much about riding and handling a bike. Try starting with a Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki bike, about 250 cc.
Good luck.

AFTER you take the class a CRF230F unless you plan to race at all... then the CRF 250F

I agree with Maddojo, you should learn to safely ride the bike first because it can become quite dangerous when jumping etc. For your weight and height, i would suggest a Yamaha yz125 or a tt-r 230F. Depending on what you want to use it for. I personally think you would have loads more fun on the yz125, as it was my first bike. The tt-r is a great bike for beginners, but the yz provides more acceleration and is better for later on. Although if you want a bike that is really reliable, go with the tt-r. It is a four stroke and so it takes straight gasoline instead of mixed fuel, and it requires a lot less maintenance than the two stroke yz. Hope this helped with your decision!

The MSF covers dirt bike riding?? The CRF230 is about as tall as any "trail bike" and it was too small for me at 5'8", but it is probably your best bet since the next step up is a race bike like the CRF250. Try to find a used Honda CRF230 or Yamaha TT-R230, ride it for a year and then sell it and move to a 250F.
