I read it about seven or eight years ago, borrowed from a "friend", and just recently decided I'd like to find another copy of it. The trouble is, I can't remember any of important detail needed by Amazon's search engine!
All I can remember is that one of the central characters was a teenage girl, who, when she was born, the doctors had to break her collarbone. I think her name was Sally or something, possibly with a sparrow or swallow. I think her mum was a single parent, and there was something about her grandmother and/or her house.
Oh, and it had murder in it (a man with a big knife) - but it wasn't a traditional murder mystery. It was of a similar genre to The Lovely Bones.
It's set in small-town America too if that helps....
