I am 5'3" and 135lbs. I don't know if I can lift a fallen 400lb+ bike... that's my biggest concern. I've never dropped a bike but I've tried to help up my friend with a 250cc and wasn't doing too hot. Does anyone else have a concern about this? What size bike would you find recommend for my size?

This seems to be a popular question... look at the Ninja 250. It's light, fuel efficient, agile, a good height for you. Rider position is comfortable, excellent bike for not a lot of money, the new ones are out the door around 4 G's. Used is even better for the money. I have the 07 model and absolutely love it.

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250... www.kawasaki.com
looks reallly sporty. I would buy pre-owned if I was you.. save a lot of money.

there is always someone around to help you pick it up.ive rode a million miles .droped it lots.i once seen a 90 pound girl pick up a 600 pound bike. there is a trick to it

Honda Rebel . Thats what I started out on. I loved it! I now have a Honda Shadow 650. I can barely pick it up. I have only layed it down twice and both times my husband helped me. So help me if I lay it down when im by myself , cuz i swear ill leave it there! I can lift the rebel though. There are techniques you can use to lift a bike...http://www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us/latest/MMSCHomeSecondary.asp?cid=5&mid=32&scat=27

Then I wouldn't buy you a 400lb bike! There are plenty of lightweights about, some with blistering performance (and horrific maintenance). make sure you fit comfortably on whatever you end up with. It has to suit you, not you suit it. yes, you need to be able to pick it up. perhaps some mild bodybuilding will help. Watch your weight, there are some bikes which have a minimum requirement!!!!

I am about your height and weight. The biggest problem is the seat height. Yes you drop a bike it is difficult to lift them (even for a guy).

The secret is to get a bike "fits" so you don't drop is as often. Many cruisers are much lower seat height. Even big cruisers are at 25 inch seat height (vs. 30 inches for most racers).

My third bike was a Kawasaki Vulcan 500. It is easy to ride and plenty of power for hwy riding. And the best part is that it is low maintenance (belt drive).

Good Luck...

Your last concern is if you can lift the bike if you fall and drop your bike.
You main concern is being safe enough and trained not to drop your bike.
There are many people your size riding large, heavy cruisersand even though they may not have the stength to pick them up, they can still ride and keep them from falling.

Some lightweight bikes are Kawasaki Ninja 250 @ 333lbs, Kawasaki Eliminator 125cc@ 291lbs, Honda Rebel @ 331lbs, Honda Nighthawk @ 315lbs
