I'm looking for a good place to go backpacking the the north east?

any where in VA, WV,PA,MD
should be challenging and 8-18 miles
hopefully in the mountains and/or near a body of water
any maps, national parks, names and areas of trails would be useful
 
If you can travel a little, the Adirondacks in New York are gorgeous in the spring. They have well marked trails along the back side of Lake Placid, and along the AuSable and Salmon rivers. There are picnic areas and campsites all along the trails.
