You can get a 1999-2001 Ford Explorer V6 4 door for $2,000 right now, good luck I sold my 1999 ford explorer eddie baurer for $1,800 she ran pretty good no problem, good luck

These are can be found for 2000 if you look at Craiglist, Autotrader, BeepBeep, or you newspaper:

84-89 and 90-96 Nissan 300zx (RWD)
1998-2002 Honda Accord Coupe (FWD)
Maybe an 03 Hyundai Tiburon (FWD)
94-98 Ford Mustang (RWD)
Ford Crown Victoria (RWD)
maybe 92-98 BMW 3 Series (RWD)
91-99 Mitsubishi 3000GT (RWD or AWD)
95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse (FWD)
Porsche 924 (RWD)
Maybe 92-00 Lexus SC (RWD)
92-96 and 97-02 Honda Prelude (FWD)
3-01 Pontiac Firebird (RWD)
82-92, 93-97and 98-02 Chevy Camaro (RWD)
Maybe 84-96 Chevy Corvette (RWD)

86-92 Toyota Supra (RWD)
91-95 Hyundai Scoupe Base or Turbo (FWD)

Look at Honda (Civic or older Accord) or Toyota, they tend to have good reliability for a lot of miles. You really need to go to a used lot and sit in the car, kick the tires, look under the hood, drive it... etc. Make sure you* like it.

For $2,000 it's hard to get yourself a sporty coupes car. There are two options that came off the top of my head that might meet what you're looking for but I'm not sure, it may be a little over $2,000.

Your options are:

Mitsubishi Eclipse
Acura Integra

These cars are easy/cheap to maintain, good gas mileage, easy to repair. The Acura Integra would be a lot more reliable than the Mitsubish Eclipse. The Integra is a fun project car as well, if you feel like hooking it up eventually.
