If you are still in high school, I suggest you talk to your counselor.

Today, degrees in anything are not cheap. I work part time for an attorney who graduated over 15 years ago, and he is still paying on loans he took to attend law school.

I believe your undergraduate studies should be History, however, I have heard of people getting into law school with various majors.

The best exposure is to do a short summer internship for a law firm, (you need to send out your resume and letter of introduction now) which would allow you to become exposed and ask questions to various departments of law. The best lawyers are not a jack of all trades but a lawyer who has chosen one field of study and perfected that and perhaps another as he/she continues his career.

You will be able to decide if you want to pursue: Copyright infringement; intellectual property, trust and estate, commercial law, family law; criminal or international law, etc.,

You need to pass an entrance exam to enter law school and if you can you might get some grant money, but law school is expensive most lawyers spend the first 7 years paying off their loans.

1st year law students make about 190-290 and hour. 3 year Associates make about 400-590 an hour and Partners can make 890-1500 an hour. After 3 years some firms require that you make partnership or counsel - meaning that you would be bring in clients as well as work for the firm.
