I'm getting really into photography?

So, I'm a beginning photographer. I'm looking for a new camera, and I need your help to do so (:
I was looking at the Nikon3000 but I'm not sure. I can get it for $470. I want a good camera too, because I will probably be using it for like 6 years. Any camera's I should check out?
I'm not willing to spend more than 800 for the camera either. That's without the warranty and stuff.

Also, I was wondering about editing software too. Preferably nothing too expensive.

Then there's the learning portion of this. I'm a junior right now and next year I'm going to take a photography class at my community college (the one at my school sucks). I would like to learn before that though (: Any good websites or anything?

here is a good deal on a d3000, it comes with 2 lenses, an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens, all for under $800! This would be a great starter camera, and will give you an insight into the world of DSLR's. I would also recommend Nikon over Canon, but that is a matter of personal preference, both are good.
