best to get for a beginner? someone told me that specialized would be good. and that fixed gear would be good too.
 
Visit the local bike shop and talk with them. The right bike will depend on what you want to use it for and where you want to ride it. A fixed gear bike is very limited on what you can use it for and is not a good choice for a beginner.
 
In my opinion you could probably find a decent used bike on ebay or craigslist once you figure out what size you are... go to your bike store and ask them to help you out with that as well as if they know anyone selling used bikes. Since you are a beginner you may want to buy a nice newer bike in the future but I think you would get the most out of your money first looking for used bikes.
