Hi guys,

I'm considering setting up a mini-car washing business that I can do when I'm not working. My salary is only £15,000 so I am considering using my two days off washing cars. I know it is something that teenagers do to earn pocket money, but it could be worthwhile If I put the effort in.

I will of course buy my own car wash shampoo and am considering also buying those nice smelling christmas trees you stick in your car to make it sell nice.

Also I think it would be a great idea to make up some business cards that I can post through peoples doors.

Should I invest in my own hoover?
How much should I charge for washing a car?
How much should I charge for both interior and exterior?

Do you think it is a good idea overall?

Please be kind, thanks!

I think you should go for it! I work at a bank in New England, and the car wash companies come in everyday with huge deposits. They're doing very well even during the current recession. If you want a lot of customers, advertise everywhere and sound professional. Good Luck!

yes go for it, you can buy you valeting products from auto glym off the van at trade prices look it up on the web, they come to you with a van and will explain all about what products will suit your needs best i would say about £5 for a car wash, it all depends on your area what you can charge, i used to charge my local showroom £80 for a full valet but that was every thing done, engine bay scratch removal and every thing dressed ie 6- 7 hours work per car, few tips you can use a rubber blade to remove water from car you can also use it on car seats to remove dog hairs, use a paint brush on air vents with hoover to remove dust and don,t forget to clean glass in and out, it makes a big difference hope this helps

you don't say where you re going to wash the cars

on your property
on the customers property

are you using their hot water and electricity or yours

All this will have a bearing on the costs

you really need to work on a business plan first
and think about what in total you need to start up
in the way of materials, equipment, and marketing

Also remember you will need personal liability
insurance in case a customer claims you scratched their car or damaged it in any way
