I'm an adult and only just starting to learn how to ride a bike: any help/advice?

See detail please? I know there's a lot there, but bear with me.

I never learnt when I was a kid and would like some help. To give you some backstory, I'm currently living in university halls in Japan and everybody is assigned a bike by choosing a straw. Bikes are very popular and are the best way to get around, from what I can tell.

Where I live is mostly flat terrain, but there is very little pavement and I don't think there's any greenery nearby, so I've only practised in the university carpark at the front of the building thus far.

Anyway, here's what I want to say/ask about:

1. Did you practise initially with stabilisers or not? If you did, were they a help or a hindrance?
2. Have you ever fallen off and got injured while practising?
3. Do you find it better to practise on urban terrain or in a park or somewhere similar?
4. I sometimes find my arches/instps cramping when practising: could it be because I'm working too hard or not holding my leg correctly, or something else?
5. Did you first practise with someone on a one-to-one basis, in a club or by yourself?
6. What warm-up exercises are best to do before practise?
7. If you can ride a motorbike, do you find it easier to ride than a regular bike? What's the difference between the experience of riding the two?
8. Anything else you reckon you could offer?

Many thanks
