I'm 21, I'm graduating with a specialized business degree in December. I'm pretty confident I'll be getting a paying internship in the summer and that will lead me to a full-time job.
The circumstances I'm experiencing right now are kind of hard. I'm living at home. My parents are struggling to make ends meet. I have celiac disease meaning I can't eat anything with even a trace of wheat. If I do, I get extremely sick for a week. Anyways, my parents have not been able to buy food that much. Our fridge is almost empty, our cupboard is not much better. Whatever is there I cannot have due to my condition. When I approach my parents and say "I am at a negative balance and I haven't eaten for almost two days" they just simply say "We can't do anything about it. We're out of money."
It is pretty depressing eating a can of tomato sauce or eating a raw potato and calling that my meal for the entire day, but I am starting to realize I have no choice. I'm feeling a little malnutritioned, I'm not getting any protein. My parents are not eligible for food stamps because they are putting my brother through private school (which they also did for me) and they sacrifice a lot to do it. I have a job but it only pays for my insurance and gas.
Is there anything I can do to not live so miserably? I'm so damn hungry all the time. I would stop being a fulltime student and start working more but I am so close to graduating. I used up my student loan this semester to pay for a stupid car repair and to make a payment to my parents. I just need a short-term solution so I can buy food until this summer and December.
