I dont get this!
Im 23 years old, I have lived on my own since I was 18.
I have my own medical insurance, my own bills, everything. Im completely independent.
I just switched schools, Im going to an institute and its really expensive. I cant afford it on my own so I applied for financial aid.
I filled out my FAFSA form and they are telling me that Im too young to be considered indepedent.
The cut off date is you have to be born before January of 1986. I was born March 1986. So they are still considering me as a dependent of my parents.
They are looking at my parents income instead of mine and are saying they make too much for me to get financial aid.
So the government wont give me anything for school.
I have to pay all of it out of my pocket until next year when I am considered independent, all bc I was born 2 months past the cut off date.
I cant afford a whole years tuition!
How is that possible?!
Is there a way to get around this?!
I guess I should have been incredibly irresponsible and gone out and had a kid by accident at a really young age! Then I guess all my schooling would be paid for to!
So, bc I am responsible, and I fend for myself, work full time and dont mooch off my parents, Im getting punished for it.
