...which would suit me best? I do lots of miles so a Range is obviously the better in that respect but is it just too "old" for me right now? The m3 will incur higher insurance and fuel costs but is a lot more suited to me age wise.

If you buy either brand new, you're incredibly stupid: The initial hit in depreciation will be huge (especially on the Range Rover), but if that doesn't bother you, just buy them both. I'm sure you can really afford them.
We don't even know you. BUT, I have to say a Range Rover Sport doesn't suit anybody best, does it? How do you compare the world's best sport sedan to a British-built milk truck in the same sentence?
Isn't that like asking whether you should eat ice cream or hit yourself in the face with a hammer? Having a hard time making up my mind......
