It shows what math class you will be able to take if you need math for your major, if you don't need to take math the don't worry about it. In college you are not assigned classes, you pick classes that are for your major. There usually also a chemistry placement exam that will determine if you have to take remedial chemistry.
If you do badly on the math placement exam you might be required to take a remedial class before you take an actual math class that counts towards your major. Taking a remedial class would be a waste of your time and money, so try to do well.
Usually the test will have simple trigonometry, exponential, algebra and word problems. Study the trig formulas and you'll be fine.
