Okay, so I know I'm a couple years late, but I just saw the movie on HBO two days ago, I LOVED some of Beyonce's music, but not even an entire album, I hate Single Ladies, but I listen to Ego, If I Were A Boy, and Irreplaceable.. (Just to fill you in, so you know I'm not some Beyonce fanatic who loves everything that falls out of her mouth) Anyway, I decided to look up Beyonce's versions of the songs she sang, that were originally done by Etta James.. And people are still fuming over that film, and Beyonce singing at the inaugural ball. Personally, I do think Beyonce sang it better, regardless of who made it famous. I'm not saying Beyonce did everything fairly, because in some ways she didn't. Everyone is bashing B because she's in, but that's not even the point, regardless of what she sings about, she has a WONDERFUL voice, just like Katy Perry, and Christina Aguilera.. You would think that since these women have such strong voices they'd be rolling out hits, and money.
Although I said that I do find Beyonce's version to be better, I think it's more about loyalty and preference. I just got more emotion from B. Where Etta does have a strong voice, it just skimmed on the heartbreak, where as B's sank fifty feet below it. I will compare it to my love for both Tupac and Biggie, I love Tupac's lyrics because they're more sentimental and more towards reality, but Biggie's voice has me caught even though most of his stuff is about sex, women, and drugs.

I just want to see other points.. Thanks,
