...or God's? God supposedly created all things, including not only the path itself, but the vessel in which Its divine spark is carried (i.e. you), thus it seems that God is what motivates and directs us down a particular path, and that it's entirely out of our hands.
We like to think that we're in control, but perhaps we're just along for the ride. Those of us who see ourselves as "good" people might be destined to be such from the beginning of God's creation, thus a crusade to be good, as well as the tribulations you might expect, seem entirely natural or at least not completely unexpected.
That being said, while hiking if you find a granola bar lying on whatever path you choose, do you eat it, safe in the notion that this is your destiny? Or do you fight the urge and ignore it, thereby fulfilling just a different destiny, anyway?
