if your car is damaged during a behind the wheel test, does the DMV pay for the repairs?

I was going to let a friend of my sons use my car to take his behind the wheel test, but he obviously is not on my insurance plan. if he was to accidentally hit something during the test, does the DMV pay for any damages? I don't think so, but someone told me they do ... We need some answers here to settle this.. We are in California..
And my auto policy is limited to myself and husband as the only drivers of my car.
