...with education....? just look at Texas. Governor Rick Perry has appointed most of these people and they continue to try to push religion (specifically Christianity) into school curriculum. First it was trying to replace science with creationism. And now this:

"Three reviewers, appointed by social conservatives, have recommended revamping the K-12 curriculum to emphasize the roles of the Bible, the Christian faith and the civic virtue of religion in the study of American history. Two of them want to remove or de-emphasize references to several historical figures who have become liberal icons, such as César Chávez and Thurgood Marshall."

I believe that religion should be taught in private schools, and not replacing existing curriculum. I would be all for an elective course on the philosophy of religions that discuss many religions, but forcing study of the Bible and its characters is wrong.

What do you think?
 
Awesome, finally some equal time. I've been watching EVERY other religion and culture get indoctrinated into my child in public school now, for 7 years. The only one which doesn't make it in to the school is OURS. And this needs to stop.

No, grob, RELIGION needs to be taught by parents (or not) and this means ALL RELIGION.

If you wish to expose children to the religions of the world, the best and least value-laden way to accomplish this is through teaching them the History of Western Civilization. This way, instead of the indoctrination, they're actually getting an education.

I think if you guys on the "left" got behind school vouchers than people would have "options" to educate their children in a manner according to their beliefs and this wouldn't be a freaking problem.

However, that isn't good enough for liberals. They want to "teach" THEIR beliefs to EVERYONE so they can have a utopia (in their minds at least).
 
I agree. A child has the right to decide his or her religious beliefs without interference from the government.

I have always argued that teaching Creationism or Intelligent Design is a way for Christianity (let's not kid ourselves) get into the classrooms in disguise.

I also agree that an elective course on world religions and philosophies should be available, instead of forcing the child to study only one or two.

But in any case, I think this should also be available only at High School Grades.
